The Camonica Valley is famous for its extraordinary complex of rock engravings, most of which date back to prehistoric times, many of which can be visited along the valley in archaeological parks and areas adapted for visitors. Less well known are the aspects of daily life of the authors of the engravings, which are presented in this museum that brings together the last 30 years of preventive archaeology and research interventions carried out in the Valley. These communities, which from the Iron Age onwards will be known as Camunni, can be referred to as various settlements, workplaces, places of worship and burials that are collected in the rooms of the MUPRE.
The National Museum of Prehistory, located in the old building of Villa Agostani in the historical centre of Capo di Ponte, integrates, with the exhibition of the findings, the heritage of images engraved on the rocks and recomposes, in an inseparable whole, the expression of the identity of the Camonica Valley.
