Google Maps: Garabandal is located on a slope full of erratic blocks due to the erosive action of the glaciers, to the north of the Peña Labra Mountains. Underneath are mountain huts and pastures used in the summertime by herds of native cattle.
This site is in the open air and is included in an archaeological mountain route.
The Nansa Valley has a huge Cultural Heritage and offers a lot of places to visit, as the typical villages of Polaciones Valley, Carmona and Tudanca (where the House of Jose Maria Cossio is located). The Forge of Cades (XVIII Century, https://ferreriadecades.es/ ) is an essential destination to know the traditions and the Heritage of this Valley. The caves of El Soplao and Chufin (with Palaeolithic rock art) are close to theses Archaeological sites as well.

Chalcolithic -Bronze ages
Garabandal: In a large erratic block of conglomerate appears an engraved representation that has been interpreted as the schematization of an anthropomorphic idol. It is a rectangular figure, with a series of internal divisions made by means of horizontal lines and filled with zig-zag lines. The figure was probably finished off with an arched line in the top part, but the upper part has not been preserved. The technique used is deep groove engraving. The chronology of the representation can be placed at the beginning of the Bronze Age (about 3,800 years ago).
The site was known to the local population since ancient times. The archaeological study of it is recent. It was developed by teams of the University of Cantabria in the 1980s.
