Natural Environment:
In the geography of Nerpio (Albacete), nature has carved out a large part of the limestone of the Jurassic period, forming ravines and steep areas full of hollows, cavities and rocky shelters. Mediterranean vegetation covers the area, being especially lush at the bottom of the ravines.
Archaeological evidences in the site:
In the Sierra del Segura and adjacent areas, decorated rock shelters are common. In general they are cave paintings framed in what we know as Mediterranean Arc Cave Art, both from the Levantine and Schematic cycles. Within this group of cave sites, we can mention the Abrigo de la Hoz, the Abrigo de Viñuela, the Abrigo de los Ídolos, the Abrigo de los Sabinares, the Torcal de las Bojadillas, but we must also mention the Solana de las Covachas, the only shelter that can be visited up to now.
